Sacred Relics for Enshrinement in 'Sanda Hiru Seya' Taken in Procession

The first leg of taking sacred Kapilawasthupura relics of the Buddha from the President’s House for enshrinement in the Sanda Hiru Seya at Anuradhapura began Wednesday (12) morning amid religious rites and rituals after they were formally entrusted to the custodianship of the President.  
 
The coordination for bringing down those sacred relics to Sri Lanka was effected by Ven Waskaduwe Mahindawansa Thero in close cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, pioneers in the construction of the first-ever Dagoba of this magnitude to revere the memories of fallen War Heroes.    
 
Early on Wednesday (12), the relics were first brought to the Army Headquarters before they were moved to the Army Commander’s official residence for veneration and offerings. Later, they were respectfully taken to the President’s House at Colombo Fort.
 
An elaborate programme at the President’s House, attended by a large gathering of chief monks, HE the President, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence and Urban Development, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, Inspector General of Police, Director General Civil Defence Force and senior service officers, saw recital of Seth Pirith, conduct of special Pooja and other religious rituals by Maha Sangha before HE the President placed the relic casket in the special vehicle that carries the relics to Kandy first and Anuradhapura on Thursday (13). 
 
Enshrinement of relics in the Anuradhapura Sanda Hiru Seya, being built as a tribute to the memory of War Heroes for unifying the country after crushing terrorism, will take place on Sunday (23) during a grand religious ceremony, headed by HE the President and Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the architect behind its realization.      
 
Ven Ellawala Medananda Thero, Ven Medagoda Abhayatissa Thero, Ven Bengamuwe Dhammadinna Thero, Ven Kollonnawe Sumangala Thero, Ven Dodampahala Rahula Thero, Ven Kirinde Assaji Thero and a large group of state officials were associated with the event at the President’s House.
 
The motorcade carrying relics reaches Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa this evening and will commence the journey again to Anuradhapura on Thursday (13) via Matale and Dambulla.
 
Sri Lanka Army on the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake has taken the complete responsibility for all preparations in connection with the enshrinement ceremony and all other related activities that commenced on Wednesday (12).
