Royal College Union Gifts New Library to the Building Renovated by Soldiers

In response to a request made by the 513 Brigade’s Civil Affairs Office in Jaffna, EDEX Committee of the Colombo Royal College Union (RCU) donated a fully-equipped library to the Jaffna Kulamangal Roman Catholic Vidyalaya at Mallakam during a recent brief ceremony.

14 Gemunu Watch (GW) serving the area under the 513 Brigade, at the request of the Valikamam Education Zone and school authorities took measures to renovate an abandoned school building in the compound for the purpose of establishing the proposed library, financed by the EDEX Committee of the Colombo Royal College Union (RCU).

Building materials, furniture, books and one computer cost the RCU about Rs. 4 lakhs. Mr Upali Gunasekara unveiled a plaque on the occasion of its opening on Monday (11) and officially handed it over to the principal at Kulamangal Roman Catholic Vidyalaya at Mallakam. A brief meeting chaired by Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J) marked the official opening of the new library.

Kanapathipillai, Commander 513 Brigade Brigadier Pradeep De Silva, EDEX committee chairman Mr. Kamal Abeysinghe, Senior Officers of the 51 Division, a few students from the Royal College, teachers, students and parents of J/Mallakam RC Vidyalaya were present on the occasion.
