Troops of the 572 Brigade in the 57 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi distributed 177 dry ration packs among poor families in the general areas under the Kandavalai Divisional Secretariat on Friday (2).
The sponsorship for the humanitarian project was provided by the 1980 A/L Tamil class at Royal College, Colombo who generously donated Rs 474,000/= to the 572 Brigade HQ of the 57 Division for purchase of those dry ration packs. Each pack was worth around Rs 2500/= and contained rice, dhal, milk powder, spices, cereals, dry fish, etc.
Major General (Retd) Ravi Ratnasingham, a senior Army officer, now residing in the US coordinated the project on behalf of the 1980 A/L Tamil class at Royal College.
Commander 572 Brigade, together with the Commanding Officer - 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and troops organized the event, together with the support of the 572 Brigade’s Civil Affairs Officer.
The coordination of the event was done by the Divisional Secretariat Kandaweli, after selecting the most deserving low income families in Kandavalai Divisional Secretariat.
The General Officer Commanding 57 Division, Major General Priyantha Jayawardana, gave necessary guidelines to the Commander, 572 Brigade Brigadier Nishantha Muthumala, under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces-Killinochchi Major General Harendra Ranasinghe.
The Commander Security Forces - Killinochchi, General Officer Commanding 57 Division and Commander 572 Brigade, District Secretary - Kilinochchi, Divisional Secretary Kandavalai, 572 Brigade Civil Affairs Officer, Commanding Officers of 6 SLSR and 14 SLNG participated in the distribution event.
