Royal College Past Pupils Support Welikanda Families & Temples

In order to alleviate hardships, faced by civilians due to COVID-19 pandemic, a distribution of dry rations and essential items was conducted among the needy families living in Welikanda and Dimbulagala DS Divisions on Sunday (1).

During the programme, 10 water tanks for remote Buddhist temples were also distributed on the same day (1).

The project, proposed by the Commander 233 Brigade, Colonel Wasantha Hewage was conducted under the guidance and presence of the Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Channa Weerasuriya and the General Officer Commanding of the 23 Division Major General Nalin Koswatte.

The donation programme was sponsored by the past pupils of Royal College, Colombo and Sri Jayawardenepura Campus spending about Rs 580,000.00. 100 dry ration packs were thus distributed. Before the start of the donation, Project Professor Chamari Jayasinghe delivered brief talk as counseling for pregnant women who are also among the beneficiaries.

Professor Chamari Jayasinghe, Mr Prasad Lokubalasooriya, past pupils of Royal College, Colombo and Sri Jayawardenepura Campus, Divisional Secretaries of Welikanda and Dimbulagala DS Divisions, Mr Chaminda Munasinghe, Desamanya Desabandu Yasantha Perera, Saduni Lokubalasooriya, Miss Samanthi Wijeywardhana, Miss Swarnakanthi Samarasinghe, Mr Bojaya Kasun, Civil Affairs Officer 233 Infantry Brigade and the troops of 9 SLA attended the donation project. The event was conducted adhering to COVID - 19 health guidelines.
