Rowing Championships Go to Military Police & KDU Women's Teams

The Sri Lanka Army Corps of Military Police (SLACMP) Rowing Team and Kotalawala Defence University Women’s Rowing Team won the Men and Women's champion trophies respectively at the Inter Regiment Indoor Rowing Championship Tournament, held during January 28 – 30 at Kotalawala Defence University (KDU) indoor stadium.

Brigadier A. L . D. M. Gunasekara, Chairman, Army Rowing Club as the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony and Major General Milinda Peiris, Vice Chancellor, KDU as the Chief Guest in the closing ceremony,  attended the events, together with a gathering of senior officers and other invitees.

The tournament was organized under eight age categories. One open event for men, six open categories and one open event for women made up the tournament.

The SLACMP Rowing Team (Men’s Team) emerged Champions securing 84 marks. The runners-up were the teams from Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) and Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC).

In the women’s category, KDU Women’s Team carried away the Women’s Championship collecting 96 marks. The runner-up was SLACMP women’s team.

In the meantime Gajaba Regiment won the trophy in the disable category while Special Forces grabbed the Runners-up slot.

Meanwhile, SLAC men's team and the KDU women's team won the championship trophies in the open champion trophy category while Mechanized Infantry men's team and Army Women's Corps team emerged winners to clinch the runners-up trophies.

More than 400 competitors representing almost all the Regiments of the Army and the KDU team participated in the championship tournament.
