Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc, Director General of Directorate of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Army Headquarters on the verge of retirement from the Army after a landmark career of 34 years was invited this evening (20 September) to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, together with his family members.
During the interactions, the Army Chief appreciated the services of the retiring Senior Officer and recalled memories associated with the retiring Officer’s technical skills. The Commander of the Army also inquired about his future plans and wished him good luck with his future endeavors.
While sharing a few pleasantries with the retiring Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc, the Army Chief did not forget to exchange a few words with his wife and two children who were present at the office. He also did not fail to mention the support that the retiree’s family members have given to the outgoing Officer in the performance of his challenging roles.
Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc also in turn thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and guidance while mentioning the encouragement he received during his tenure of service in the organization.
Towards the end of the interactions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the outgoing retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation along with a special gift to the family.
Here follows a brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer;
Major General J.A.R.S.K Jayasekara USP psc was enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 14 July 1989. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) on 19 January 1991. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the span of his service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 10 October 2022.
He has been holding the Office of the Director General of Directorate of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Army Headquarters at the time of his retirement. He also held the appointments of Workshop Officer of 106 Workshop in Jaffna, Officer Commanding of 106 Workshop in Jaffna, Workshop Officer of 102 Workshop at the 1 SLEME, Staff Officer 3 (Administration) of Regimental Centre, SLEME, Officer Commanding Troops of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Troops at Forward Maintenance Area – North, Officer Commanding of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers Troops of the Sri Lanka Battalion in the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Commanding Officer of 4 SLEME, Staff Officer 1 (Logistics) of Regimental Centre, SLEME, Senior Instructor of Army School of Logistics, Chief of Logistics (Chief - J4) of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Directing Staff of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Chief Instructor of Army School of Logistics, Commanding Officer of 2 (V) SLEME, Colonel (Administration and Quartering) of 12 Infantry Division, Deputy Director of Directorate of Overseas Operations at Army Headquarters, Commandant of Army School of Logistics and Director of Directorate of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers at Army Headquarters.
He has followed many local and foreign courses during his military career, such as Officers’ Par Excellence Course, Operational Staff Duties Course, Army Command and Staff Course, Workshop Company Commanders’ Course - India, Senior Officers’ Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Course - India, Young Technical Officers’ Course - India and Ground Artillery Repair Engineer Course - China.
In addition, the Senior Officer has read for a Diploma in English at London Business School in London, United Kingdom.
