Rise of Different Threats Brings Pressure on Governments, Society &;amp; Militaries - Dr Prabhakar

Presenting his views on ‘Transnational Challenges, Disasters, ‘State Vulnerabilities in Southern Asia: Role of Armed Forces from an Indian Perspective,’ Dr. W. Lawrence S. Prabhakar, Professor of Strategic Studies and International Relations, Department of Political Science, Madras University, India said that with the rise of different terrorist threats looming large, governments, militaries, society and common well-being are under enormous pressure from all fronts.

“In the age of globalization and asymmetric conflicts, the scourge of transnational challenges and threats from human-induced sources are as high as natural disasters and calamities. The Southern Asian region is now emerging to be a high-risk prone region even as transnational terrorist groups, insurgencies and crime syndicates are now operating all over the region. With the rise of the ISIS and the Al-Qaeda in South Asia, combined with the radical Left insurgencies of the Naxalites and Maoists, the region is under severe peril as states and governments are coming under enormous political, social, civic and military pressures. While prospects of economic development have been there, the lethality of these threats have an overwhelming impact on the states of the region”.
