Rifle Corps Troops Build House for Widowed Family

Troops of the 1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC) extending their generosity towards a needy family in Matale area constructed a new house and formally vested it in the deserving family on 20 August.

The widowed mother with her daughter has been leading a hand to mouth life after loss of her husband, but 1 SLRC troops volunteered to build this house after the District Secretariat came forward to help the troops for construction with necessary funds for purchase of raw materials.

Through the offices of the National Child Protection Authority, Presidential Secretariat and the District/Divisional Secretariats, troops with state officials were able to raise money for raw materials, needed for the construction. The Matale District Secretariat was generous enough to allocate a 10 perch state land for this purpose following submissions, forwarded by troops involved in the project.

Brigadier Rajitha Rathnayake, Commander 111 Brigade as the Chief Guest attended for formal warming and handover of the house to the needy family where a representative group of state officials were also present at the location.
