Returnees for Resettlement Given Helping Hand by Clearing Wild Bushes

10 Field Engineer troops, together with heavy machinery moved to newly demined areas in Mawaddipuram area in order to clear bushes and creepers, enabling civilians to return to their original places for resettlement.

Those lands that remained abandoned for decades due to LTTE terrorism were recently given back to those original settlers after the Army’s removal of landmines and UXOs but dense jungles with thorny bushes and creepers compelled those returnees to keep off from resettling.

Responding to the status quo after those people brought the matter to the notice of Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J), steps were taken immediately to mobilize troops and heavy machinery to those affected areas in Veemankamam North, Veemankamam South, Mavaddipuram and Mavaddipuram South Gramaseva Sector with the objective of clearing those areas.
