Retiring VIR Senior Officer Receives Commander’s Greetings

The retiring Major General RADP Ranawaka RWP RSP USP ndc of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), the Quarter Master General and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps on the eve of his retirement, arrived on invitation at the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage on Tuesday (4), together with his family members.

The Army Chief during the meeting with the retiree, praised him for his notable service and performance of his diverse responsibilities with dedicated commitment and selflessness. He also refreshed memories of the retiree’s invaluable sacrifices and roles during the height of the war against terrorism as an Infantry Officer before May 2009.

Major General RADP Ranawaka RWP RSP USP ndc, having served the Army for more than 35 years in return thanked the Army Commander for the invitation and expressed his gratitude for the guidance the Commander extended to him in the performance of his office as Quarter Master General.

The Army Chief while sharing a few pleasantries with his family members invited to the occasion, also inquired into the retiring Senior Officer’s future endeavours and plans. The Army Chief simultaneously commended the invaluable support that has been given to the Senior Officer by his family members throughout while the retiring Senior Officer was engaged in operations to safeguard the motherland.

Towards the end of the interaction, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the retiring Major General RADP Ranawaka RWP RSP USP ndc as a symbol of appreciation and commendation, along with a special gift to the family.

Major General Major General RADP Ranawaka RWP RSP USP ndc enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 16 March 1987. Upon successful completion of basic military training in Sri Lanka Military Academy under Intake 28, was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to the rank of Major General on 28 January 2021.

He was holding the appointment of Quarter Master General and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps at the time of his retirement. He also held the appointments of platoon Commander, Company Commander, Second-in-Command, Commanding Officer, Colonel General Staff, Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Staff and General Officer Commanding.

For his bravery and gallantry in the battlefields, he has been awarded the Rana Wickrama Padakkama and the Rana Sura Padakkama.
