Retiring SLE Colonel Commandant's Commitment Hailed

Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regiment's one of the most admired Senior Officers, Major General Kumara Peiris, Additional Director, Project Management Unit of the Defence Headquarters Complex Project (DHQC) and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) on the eve of his retirement from the Army was invited by the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva to his office at the AHQ on Friday (29) where the latter commended his dedicated services to the Army for more than three decades.

General Shavendra Silva during the brief interaction spoke high of his committed roles in the SLE and dedicated roles he played in assisting challenging engineering assignments undertaken by the Army as well as his continuing commitment for completion of the entire Defence HQ complex at Sri Jayawardenepura. The Army Chief citing a couple of examples commended him for his creative products and construction of public utilities whenever such interventions were sought.

The outgoing Senior Officer who has also served a number of key appointments in the Army and the Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) in particular also thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and the appreciative thoughtfulness while mentioning about the encouragement he received from the Army Chief in the performance of his duties. Towards the end of the interaction, General Shavendra Silva awarded a special memento to the retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation. The gesture was reciprocated.
