Retiring Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana Honoured at Home of Gajaba

The Gajaba Regiment on Friday (21) bade farewell to one of its proud sons, Major General Niyshshanka Ranawana, who after rendering an exemplary service to the country for more than 30 years retired from the Army during a formal military ceremony at the Gajaba Regiment Regimental Headquarters, Home of Gajaba in Saliyapura.

The day's protagonist, Major General Ranawana was warmly welcomed by the GR Deputy Centre Commandant, Colonel Mahinda Rajapaksha on behalf of the Colonel of the Regiment, Centre Commandant, all officers and Other Ranks of the Gajaba Regiment upon his arrival at the main gate at the Regimental Centre before he was greeted in a 'Guard Turnout'. Then he paid his final official tribute to the 'Founder Father’ of the Gajaba Regiment, late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne by placing a floral wreath at his statue.

Thereafter, the day's Chief Guest was invited to receive the salute in a colourful military parade by the Parade Commander in the GR parade ground in conformity with military traditions. A few minutes later, he attended an All Rank tea arrangement at the Men's Club with all officers and Other Ranks where he shared couple of thoughts and recalled yesteryear memories.
