Retiring Major General Milinda Peiris Accorded Military Salute

Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) on Thursday (11) bade farewell to one of its proud sons, Major General Milinda Peiris, Colonel Commandant, SLAC and Chief of Staff of the Army who has rendered an exemplary service to both the organization and the country during a formal military ceremony at his Regimental Headquarters, Rock House, Colombo on the eve of his retirement from the Army.

The day’s programme kicked off after Major General Peiris on arrival received a Guard Turnout and was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel, L.K.T Fernando, Commanding Officer, 1 SLAC.

A Guard of Honour, presented by SLAC troops afterwards saluted Major General Peiris at the parade grounds after he was warmly welcomed by Brigadier D.T Gamage, Center Commandant, SLAC and Brigadier R.G.U Rajapaksha, Commander, Armoured Brigade, SLAC.

The charming but the dignified military parade was reviewed by the outgoing Colonel Commandant, accompanied by the Parade Commander together with Brigadier D.T Gamage and Brigadier R.G.U Rajapaksha in accordance with military traditions.

Meanwhile, Major General Peiris, placed his official signature and handed over the responsibilities of the Colonel Commandant of the SLAC to his successor. A tree sapling at Rock House Camp premises followed by an all rank tea party at the Corporals’ Club culminated the day’s proceedings. Mrs. Nilanjani Peiris, outgoing President, SLAC Seva Vanitha Unit also attended the ceremony inside the SLAC Regimental Headquarter premises. At the end of the events, the outgoing Colonel Commandant was awarded a street lining farewell bids ‘Jaya Sri’ by officers and other ranks of the SLAC. Major General Nanda Udawaththe, Adjutant General, Major General B.A Perera, Director General General Staff, Major General Sathyapriya Liyanage, Military Liason Officer at MoD together with several senior officers, officers and other ranks participated in the day’s events. Wednesday’s evening saw another farewell ceremony, held at the Rock House in connection with his retirement. Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army attended as the Chief Guest.
