Retiring Major General Mahinda Mudalige Joins RHQ's Farewell Ceremony

Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment troops bade farewell to the outgoing Major General Mahinda Mudalige, former Colonel of the SLLI Regiment and Commander, Security Forces-West during a formal farewell ceremony, held at the SLLI Regimental Headquarters premises in Panagoda on Sunday (9).

The day's event commenced with a ceremonial Guard Turnout, followed by a Guard of Honour salute, together with the regimental mascot and regimental Colours at the parade ground. Major General Jayantha Gunaratne, new Colonel of the Regiment, SLLI, welcomed him afterwards, together with veterans, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks from all Units who joined the occasion. The outgoing Major General Mudalige joined a flora wreath-laying ceremony too at the SLLI War Heroes' monument.

The day’s event also included an all rank tea arrangement at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess before the retiring SLLI veteran addressed the troops and recalled his yesteryear memories. After a while he was invited to plant a sapling in the venue.

The programme of events culminated with the customary a ‘Guest Night’ hosted for Major General Mahinda Mudalige & Mrs Mudalige by Senior Officers, Officers and their Spouses in the Regimental Officers’ Mess.
