Retiring Major General Gunawardena Given Military Honours at HQ VIR

Major General Chandana Gunawardena, Colonel of the Regiment, Vijayabhu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and the former Commandant at the Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) - Buttala retired from the Sri Lanka Army on Sunday (22) after completion of 34 years of exemplary service to the country.

Upon his arrival at the VIR Headquarters at Boyagane, he was greeted to a formal Guard Turn Out before he was invited to recall the memories of fallen VIR War Heroes by placing a floral wreath at the War Hero monument in the premises. After a few minutes, the outgoing Colonel of the Regiment was honoured in a customary Guard of Honour parade, the highest tribute to his services in the Army.

Later on at the office of the Colonel of the Regiment, he officially relinquished office and handed over duties to the new Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Rohana Ketakumbura after signing formal documents.

Towards the end of the day’s programme, Major General Gunawardena in a moving speech to the troops thanked all of them for the great support extended to him during his tenure of his office and urged them to do the same with the incoming Colonel of the Regiment. Award of a special memento to the outgoing Officer culminated the agenda.

During refreshments, he shared views with the troops attending the occasion. Sportswear Design | Womens Shoes Footwear & Shoes Online
