A group of three retired senior veterans this afternoon (19) called on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage at the Army Headquarters and presented a copy of their book, “Volunteers from Ceylon WWs 1 & 2” which had been co-authored by all three veterans.

The book carries a detailed account of different assignments of Ceylonese Armed Forces personnel during WW1 and WW2 and how the country received admiration from foreign forces during that period. The trio, Brigadier (Retd) Hiran Halangoda of the Army, Group Captain (Retd) Kumar Kirinde of the Air Force and Chief Petty Officer (Retd) Quintus Andraid of the Navy during the cordial meeting, explained to the Commander why efforts were made in this regard to make it a reference document in the future.

Brigadier (Retd) Hiran Halangoda, a reputed veteran in the Gemunu Watch of the Army on the same occasion requested the Army Chief to arrange the release of a consignment of 114 ICU beds and mattresses which had been coordinated by him for the benefit of patients in island-wide Army hospitals.
