Renown Former Cricketer Roshan Mahanama Foundation & Trustees Gift Laryngoscopy to Army Hospital

The Roshan Mahanama Foundation, family members and close associates of Mr Roshan Mahanama and Mr Roshan Wijerama gifted a Video Laryngoscopy machine, worth about Rs 8 lakhs to the Colombo Army Hospital on Monday (22).

Laryngoscopy machine facilitates the examination of the larynx, a part of the throat and enables obtain a clearer view of the glottis and the vocal folds. This would enormously help diagnose COVID-19 affected patients with ease.

Mr Roshan Mahanama, Ms Renuka Senadheera, Mr Roshan Wijerama Foundation trustees, members of the Roshan Mahanama Foundation, family members and close friends have jointly borne the cost of this vital machine.

Brigadier P.A.C Fernando, Director General Army Health Service and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps received the machine at the hospital premises in the presence of a representative gathering of the donors.

Video Laryngoscope being the recommended method of intubation in COVID-19 patients, and the donated equipment being the first of its kind in the hospital, Army Hospital Colombo will now be able to safely diagnose and combat COVID-19 patients who need intubation and ventilation as per international guidelines.

On being informed by Lieutenant Colonel Champika Abeysinghe, Consultant Anaesthetist of the Colombo Army Hospital about the need of a such machine, trustees of the Roshan Mahanama Foundation and well-wishers of Roshan Wijerama family promptly responded and collectively raised funds and ordered the importation of the equipment. They also were quick enough to get down the equipment to Sri Lanka within a short period amid COVID-19 pandemic.

Brigadier D.V.P Kariyawasam, Director Management and Maintenance, Colonel A.M.C Aththanayake, Director, Colombo Army Hospital, Colonel U.A.L.D Perera, Consultant Anaesthetist, and Lieutenant Colonel C.S Abeysinghe, Consultant Anaesthetist attended the occasion.
