The funeral of Brigadier S. D Udayasena RSP, Brigadier (Record and Planning) - Research, Analysis, Projection and Development Branch (RAPDB) of the Army who passed away Thursday (2) evening while receiving medical treatment for both COVID-19 and Dengue took place at Borella General Cemetery at 11.30 am on Friday (3) amidst military honours, adhering to health guidelines.
A restricted number of Officers and Other Ranks, including the Adjutant General, Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, who represented the Commander of the Army, Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna and Colonel of the Regiment Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment, Senior Officers and Other Ranks, together with a few close family members attended the funeral at Borella.
Brigadier Sudath Udayasena, an old Anandian of Colombo Ananda College who joined the Army on 7th September 1990 excelled both in character, studies and sports alike and represented the College in both athletics and sports. After completion of his school education, young Sudath Udayasena joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet to the Intake PMA 1 and successfully completed his basic military training at the Pakistan Military Academy. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 13 March 1991 and subsequently posted to the prestigious 6th Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry.
His absolute dedication, commitment and competence with lots of creative and innovative productions made him outstanding and was highly recognized. After he joined the Army in 1990, he was subsequently elevated to the rank of a Lieutenant on 12 September 1994, Captain on 07 March 1997, Major on 01 June 2002, Lieutenant Colonel on 10 November 2009, Colonel on 07 September 2016 and Brigadier on 15 June 2020. During his illustrious military career, he rendered his service to the Army in different capacities, displaying a high degree of professionalism and utmost commitment in discharging duties and responsibilities entrusted to him.
The Special Part 1 Order issued by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army said that he remained a source of encouragement and inspiration to both Officers and Other Ranks of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment.
