Remaining troops of the 20th Sri Lanka Peace Keeping contingent (SRIBAT) of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) who have already wrapped up duties and set for return declared open a Children’s park at Leogane City on 15 June as a welfare project to the people there.
The Children’s Park was funded by the United Nations Welfare Fund and the construction was completed by the SRIBAT troops.
Lieutenant Colonel Asoka Wijenayake, Contingent Commander, 20th SRIBAT and the Mayor of Leogane City graced the opening ceremony as Chief Guests.
On May 16, the services of Sri Lankan Peace Keeping Contingent in Haiti finally concluded after 10 years of service having dispatched 20 contingents.
