Religious Programme Blesses ASVU President’s One Year in Office

The completion of one year in office of the 16th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), Mrs Janaki Liyanage was marked in a religious ceremony, held at Kotte Sri Naga Viharaya on ‘Poson’ Poya day (03 June). It was organized by ASVU members and the staff in the ASVU.

The offer of ‘Buddha Pooja’, alms and ‘Pirikara’ to the monks were among the main features in the day’s programme, attended by a gathering of ASVU Senior members and members.

A colourful procession, preceded by the Army ‘Hewisi’ team conducted the monks to the alms hall in conformity with ancient traditions. The Incumbent of Sri Naga Viharaya, Kotte, Ven Waturawila Sujatha Thero in his oration explained the importance of the ‘Poson’ Poya day before the proceedings of the almsgiving began.

The monks also invoked blessings on the Commander of the Army, all serving the Army, those injured, civil staff and transferred merits to fallen War Heroes of the Army and other forces at the same occasion.

President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), Mrs Janaki Liyanage after offer of ‘Buddha Pooja’ offered alms to the members of the Maha Sangha together with other ASVU members.

After the alms-giving was over, the ASVU President took time off to visit the house of a Corporal and awarded some gifts and relief items to his critically ailing spouse as incentives.

Vice President of the ASVU, Mrs Dhanusha Weerasooriya, Secretary, Mrs. Chama Wanasinghe, ASVU executive committee members, ASVU members and Brigadier Coordination, Brigadier N Mahavithana KSV took part in the meritorious act.
