Religious Observances, Military Formalities & Cricket Tournament Mark 59 Division Anniversary

59 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) recently commemorated its 10th anniversary with elaborate programmes giving pride of place to religious observances on Wednesday (13) on the directions of Major General N.D Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 59 Division.

The anniversary arrangements set off with a special Bodhi Pooja ceremony, held at the 59 Division temple inside the camp premises. A prayer session was held at Jumma Mosque, Mullivaikkal, followed by a special Pooja conducted at Kannagi Amman Kovil in Wattappalei and a special mass at St Jude’s Church in Mullaittivu.

Afterwards, troops offered a special lunch treat to 350 children at Maha Deva Ashrama, Kilinochchi and spent a few hours with the inmates.

On the day of the anniversary (13 December), a formal Guard Turnout and a parade, presented by troops serving the 24 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) at the Headquarters saluted Major General N.D Wanniarachchi, GOC, 59 Division in accordance with military formalities.

Later on, an inter battalion cricket tournament that got underway before the anniversary day had its finals on the anniversary day in the presence of the GOC.

A large number of Officers and Other Rankers took part in these arrangements.

As the final segment of the programme, an all rank lunch was served at the mess with the objective of promoting fellowship and brotherhood among all ranks.
