Religious Observances Commence To Mark Army's 58th Anniversary

A SERIES OF religious observances coinciding with the 58th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army commenced Tuesday (2) at the Davatagaha Jumma Mosque Colombo 2 with participation of Army Chief of Staff Major General Lawrence Fernando who represented the Commander of the Army President Army Muslim Association Major General Abdul Zaheer and several other Senior Officers.

Acting Head Priest of the Mosque Rev. Al Haj A.M.Siddique, Rev. Abdul Rauf Maulavi conducted the religious rites. A section of Officers and Other Ranks from all Regiments of the Army attended the event.

Meanwhile, the Hindu ceremony to the same effect took place at Sri Balaselvanayagam Murthi Kovil, Captain Gardens, Colombo 10 Thursday (4) afternoon.

The special pooja conducted by Head Priest Bharmachari B. Shanmuganathan Sharma Kurukkal was attended by Army Chief of Staff Major General Lawrence Fernando,President Sri Lanka Army Hindu Association Brigadier R. Rathnasingham, several Senior Officers and Other Ranks of the Army.
