Record 12th Inter Regiment Wrestling Championship Won by SLE Wrestlers

The 12th Army Inter Regiment Wrestling (Novices) Tournament-2015 that got off the ground on the close supervision of Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), concluded at Nelum Piyasa, Kilinochchi on Tuesday (28) amid a gathering of wrestling fans.  

A total of 12 Regimental teams, comprised of 200 wrestlers (170 male and 30 female) competed for supremacy in the five-day tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Association, chaired by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe.

This was the first-ever tournament conducted by referees and national-level players in the Army. A total of 14 referees/ judges contributed to the successful conduct of the tournament and the finals were held on Tuesday (28).    

The tournament, conducted as per the rules and regulations of the Sri Lanka wrestling Association and the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA).

Major General Nandana Udawatta, Commander, Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J), graced the finals as the Chief Guest.

Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) wrestlers were adjudged as Champions while Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) became the runners-up. Gemunu Watch (GW) secured the third place.

Rifleman P.D.J. Prabath of SLSR became the Best Wrestler while the Sapper W.G. Mahesh of SLE became Best Loser of the tournament. Lance Corporal S.P. Wijitha Malini of 6 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) clinched the Best Female Wrestler award. Craftsman J.K. Pradeep of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) was adjudged the Best Upcoming Wrestler in the tournament.  

The Chief Guest, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Association and other invitees gave away the trophies to the winners and runners-up.
