Re-elected President of Sri Lanka Olympic Committee Pays Courtesies to Chairman National Sports Selection Committee

The recently re-elected President of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka, Mr Suresh Subramaniam on Friday (21) paid a courtesy call on General Shavendra Silva, Chairman of the National Sports Selection Committee, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army for the first time after his re-election to this prestigious office.

General Shavendra Silva extended best wishes on his re-election to the most demanding office in the field of Olympic games and discussed further improvement to field of athletics and for potential Olympians and new aspirants who eagerly await participation in future Olympic games.

During this meeting, Mr Suresh Subramaniam thanked the Commander of the Army for the support given to Olympic Committee and all the sportsmen in Sri Lanka during the COVID-19 pandemic by vaccinating even athletic veterans. It was a morale booster to them and had they missed it, they would not have been able to participate in most national and international sports events, Mr Subramaniam commented.

Similarly, he thanked the Army Chief for Army sportsmen’s contribution to the national and international sports, together with Navy and Air Force counterparts in his capacity as the Chief of Defence Staff.

The Army Chief also thanked Mr Suresh Subramaniam and the Olympic committee and also the Ministry of Sports for the support being extended for the development of sports in the country, Army and other sister services.

At the end of the cordial meeting, Mr Suresh Subramaniam awarded the Olympic committee plaque to General Shavendra Silva as a memento and the Army Chief reciprocated the gesture by awarding Army Commander’s plaque to him by appreciating his visit to the Army Headquarters.

Another official of the Olympic Committee also accompanied Mr Suresh Subramaniam during the occasion.
