THE Ranaviru Seva Authority yesterday asked the public to be aware of con men who are selling flags stating they are collecting funds to help the injured soldiers.
Ranaviru Seva Authority President Major General Palitha Fernando told a news conference yesterday that no permission is given to any state organisation or any other institution other than the Ranaviru Authority to collect funds for the soldiers. “We have been informed of these fraudulent acts and we ask the public to be informed and aware of this situation,” he said.
The authority has made arrangements to issue a flag to mark the Ranviru Day on June 7 this year. “This is the only flag which is authorized by the government,” Major General Fernando added.
A special programme to pay tribute to the forces and the police will be held near the war hero’s monument in front of Parliament at Sri Jayawardenepura on June 7 with President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the chief guest where floral tribute will be paid to the war heroes by the President and heads of the armed forces and multi religious observances.
In addition a series of ceremonies have been organised in each province from June 1 to June 7.These will be held in Kandy, Anuradhapura, Kurunegala,Trincomalee, Galle, Badulla and Ratnapura.
Another special ceremony will be held on June 4 where 200 three wheelers will be presented to injured soldiers under an ongoing empowerment project of the Ranaviri Seva Authority aimed at empowering the injured soldiers.
Talking of future activities of the Ranaviru Authority Major General Fernando explained that plans are under way to present medals to the injured soldiers who had taken part in various operations and to the families of those soldiers who had sacrificed their lives. . (Courtesy: Daily Mirror)
