Army troops serving the Sector II Army Camp complex at Kohuwala, following the success story behind their mini farm, are offering their expertise on agricultural techniques to the public on request.
The small farm, run by soldiers in the complex produces green chillies, cabbage, brinjals, tomatoes, lady’s fingers, bitter gourd and several other kinds of leafy vegetables which are sent for sale at the Seva Vanitha Army Branch, managed outlet at Battaramulla ‘Lakviru Sevana’.
Impressed public in the area, on seeing the flourishing nature of the vegetable plants as they pass by, are now used to seek guiding instructions on agro-farming from the camp since soldiers have simply used empty jute bags and carbonic manure for cultivating.
The cultivating programme that goes hand in hand with the government’s ongoing ‘Divi Neguma’ programme has more than 800 vegetable plants in the complex and produces a part of the camp’s daily requirement of vegetables.
