PTF Reviewing Health Security in Camps Flies to North

Members of the special Presidential Task Force (PTF) mandated to tackle health security risks at island-wide camps of the armed forces flew to main Security Force formations in Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu and Jaffna during 12-13 May.

During the visit to the Security Force HQ Wanni on Wednesday (12) morning, those members including Admiral (Retd) Jayantha Perera, a former Navy Commander and Rear Admiral (Retd) Ananda Peiris, Director General of the Civil Security Department at first listened to a short briefing, presented by the Commander SFHQ-Wanni Major Genaral Rohitha Darmasiri at the HQ conference hall. He also explained the preventive measures and quarantine activities being put into practice inside the HQ premises against the spread of Corona virus. They also made field visits to residential quarters and sanitary facilities of the troops. Later on, they conducted field visits to the 56 Division HQ, 62 Division HQ, 16 SLSR camp and 2(v) VIR camp to receive firsthand accounts of assessment of ground realities

This Presidential Task Force is responsible for preparing, implementing and monitoring an effective mechanism under the guidance of the Secretary of Defence and Commanders of Tri-Forces and would identify measures that need to be taken to ensure health security at military camps in view of the spreading epidemic. HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa proposed the arrangement with the participation of retired security chiefs and medical experts.

Meanwhile, Presidential Task Force (PTF) members, Admiral (retired) Jayantha Perera, Major General (retired) Sumedha Perera, Rear Admiral (retired) Ananda Peiris and Dr. Kapila Jayarathna, headed by Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Goonetileke, Governor of the Western Province made field visits to camps of the Security Forces in the Jaffna peninsula during 12-13 May.

They closely inspected all tri service camps in the peninsula and discussed ways and means of further improving health safety measures in all military establishments to prevent COVID-19 infection among Tri Forces personnel who are directly engaged in controlling the spread of Covid-19 pandemic in QCs. The Task Force visited all military establishments of the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force in Jaffna peninsula during both days. Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya and a few Officers welcomed them and conducted them to respective locations.

Similarly, the same team in the PTF visited military establishments under the Security Force Headquarters-Kilinochchi - AOR on Tuesday (12) for the same purpose and discussed means of further strengthening preventive measures against spread of COVID-19 epidemic. The Commander Security Forces Kilinochchi, Major General Jayantha Gunaratne and a few more Senior Officers accompanied those members to military formations for inspection.

Likewise, the Presidential Task Force for healthy safety of the Armed Forces made field visits to formations under the Security Force HQ- Mullaittivu on Tuesday (120 in order to inspect and provide instructions on measures need to be taken for improvement of health among troops in all MLT military establishments to prevent Covid-19 infection among Tri Forces personnel.

Major General Deepthi Jayathilake, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu briefed the visiting PTF members on the status quo before field visits were undertaken to inspect camp locations.
