"Provide Best of the Best Rations & Fresh Food Varieties to Soldiers" - Army Chief Tells Suppliers

A special discussion between suppliers of fresh food varieties and dry rations to the Army and General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, organized by the Directorate of Supply and Transport in the Army got underway at the Commander's office at the Army HQ on Tuesday (12).

General Shavendra Silva who is also the Head of the NOCPCO at the outset commended them for their uninterrupted supply of fresh rations and other dry varieties to the Army as well as to island-wide Army-managed Quarantine Centres in the face of COVID-19 epidemic and other challenges, like the curfew, sudden lockdowns and isolation practices, etc.

"I want you all to provide the best of the best food varieties to our soldiers all the time and believe you would understand their 24hr unmatched commitment to COVID-19 eradication, nation-building tasks and other humanitarian services. In the year 2021, I believe you would continue to render your service in a better way providing them with best quality of high standards, " he remarked.

Although Sri Lanka Army Service Corps takes such stocks for monthly consumptions for storage from the suppliers, the absence of required quality would certainly affect the supplies causing embarasment after some time. Approved quantities should therefore also correspond to the quantities in storages, so that there would not be any shortage of dry rations that suit recommended specifications, the Army Chief elaborated.

Brigadier Hirosha Wanigasekara, Director, Directorate of Supply and Transport at the Army HQ, 14 Army ration (Dry and Fresh) suppliers, Commanding Officers of all battalions of the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps, Commandant, Independent Supply Depot (ISD) were associated with the day's meeting.
