With the objective of evaluating the progress of the ongoing Army-initiated English language teaching classes for under-privileged children in the Jaffna peninsula, Major General S.W.B Welagedera RSP VSV USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 51 Infantry Division visited the location and met the Army teaching staff, students and their parents on Friday (20 Oct).
The 51 Infantry Division-managed English classes have been conducted since 2021 for the benefit of poor Jaffna students in the Kopai Community Centre providing teaching staff of the Army free of charge. At present, 50 students are following the language course.
During his visit, he distributed gifts among all the students and inquired about their language skills and spent some time with them before he left extending best wishes.
