Private Lands Used by the Army Released to Rightful Owners

The Army continuing its release of private lands, hitherto used since 1991 but belonging to civilians formally vacated two land extents in the general areas of Kiran, Batticaloa on Tuesday (3) as per direction of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva.

The release formally, organized by 4 Gemunu Watch troops at Kumburumulla on the guidelines given by the Commander, 231 Brigade, Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi took place in the presence of the District Secretary for Batticaloa and Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces-East.

General Officer Commanding 23 Division, Brigade Commander of 231 Brigade, Senior Officers of the Army, Police and state officials witnessed the event. Accordingly, 5 acres of private land belonging to Mrs P Annapuram, located in the Kiran West GN division and Koralaipattu South (Kiran) DS Division in Batticaloa District and 7 acres 2 rood 22 perch private land owned by the DS office at Koralaipattu in the Kiran West GN division, Koralaipattu, Valachchenei, DS Division were thus released and documents delivered to the District Secretary.
