A prisoner who attempted to escape from Matara Prison by jumping into the Nilwala River was caught by troops of the 3 (V) Gemunu Watch on 9 April 2025. The troops, using a boat, successfully captured the prisoner and handed him over to the security authorities at Matara Prison.
