Prime Minister of Pakistan Arrives in Sri Lanka to a Warm Reception

Promoting bilateral understanding and bonds of friendship between Sri Lanka & Pakistan, Hon Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan this afternoon (23) arrived in Sri Lanka to a warm welcome, hosted in his honour at the Bandaranaike International Airport.

The red carpet reception commenced soon after Pakistan’s Prime Minister alighted from the aircraft to be received by Hon Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Hon Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, High Commissioner of Pakistan, Foreign Secretary, Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage (Retd), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva and other high ranking state officials before he was ushered to the special dais in a procession of Kandyan Ves Dancers.

In conformity with military traditions, the Parade Commander afterwards reported the Guard of Honour to the day’s Head of State. Together with General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the day’s VIP reviewed the Guard of Honour, presented by Sri Lanka Armoured Corps troops before the salute was taken from the special dais. Seconds after military honours, a gun salute boomed the air as a special tribute to the arrival of Mr Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The dignified state ceremony at the airport was attended by a host of Ministers, High Commissioner of Pakistan, Parliamentarians and State Officials.
