Press Release (04/36)Army Headquarters – 27 November 2004 at 2300 hrs

LTTE DISREGARD LATEST CONDITIONS AGREED BY GOSL & LTTE

Barely after twenty four (24) hours after the LTTE took an undertaking with the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Vavuniya that they (LTTE) would not hoist LTTE flags but would sit together with SLMM and Security Forces on a daily basis to discuss day to day matters, LTTE men on Friday (26), kept off from attending the scheduled meeting at SLMM office in Vavuniya today (27).

On Friday at a meeting chaired by SLMM both Security Forces and LTTE agreed to meet on daily basis until the LTTE commemorative events are over after issuing a statement jointly signed by LTTE and the Security Forces.

However, Brigadier Srinath Rajapakse, Brigadier General Staff, Lt Colonel A. Kariyakarawana, Colonel General Staff of the Security Forces Headquarters Wanni, Mr. Miskin, SSP Vavuniya and Mr. Neville Guruge, SP were at the SLMM venue as scheduled but LTTE representatives did not show up.

Security Forces enlightened the SLMM on the dubious nature of the LTTE approach and behaviour. Meanwhile the LTTE flag at Veppamkulam that was raised yesterday continued to be at the same location. SLMM have been kept informed.
