Two Army Intelligence operatives escape murder attempt
Two Army Intelligence Operatives returning to their camp on a civil vehicle after an official duty in POLONNARUWA came under gunfire Tuesday (23) evening at about 5.00 p.m. from two suspected LTTE gunmen while they were traveling in MANAMPITIYA area.
Two Army Intelligence Operatives, attached to the WELIKANDA Army camp were returning to their camp along the WELIKANDA-POLONNARUWA Main Supply Route (MSR) when their vehicle was suddenly attacked by gunmen at the roadside.
Those in the affected vehicle opened fire towards assailants in self-defence and later managed to nab those two gunmen who were taking to their heels after the abortive attempt with the help of the Police and troops deployed in the area. No injuries were however caused to Army Intelligence Operatives.
Those suspects, SELVARAJAH NIMALARAJ (18) alias INIAWAN of KALUWANKERNI, CHENKALADI and SHIVANANDAN of DEMALAGAMA, MANAMPITIYA believed to be from LTTE are now in MANAMPITIYA Police station. The Police investigations are on.
