A five member delegation from the Government of India led by Mr. Ranjith Issar Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Defence held discussions with a team headed by Mr. Cyril Herath Secretary Defence and comprising the Service Chiefs, Senior Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Nigel Hatch, President's Counsel in regard to the proposed agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka concerning cooperation in the field of Defence.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Defence on 19th October 2004. Bilateral Defence Cooperation in the field of Military Training, Exchange of Military Intelligence and Information, Maritime Surveillance to prevent illegal activities affecting both countries, official visits and bilateral meetings at different levels, participation in training programmes, joint military exercises, etc. were discussed among other matters.
