President’s Senior Adviser Inducts ‘Effective Communication’ Course for Army Officers at AHQ

Aimed at improving professional communication skills among Army Officers, the Directorate of Army Training on a conceptual direction of Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this morning (14) inaugurated the 'Effective and Impactful Communication' Course at the Army HQ for a gathering of Senior Officers at the Army HQ.

Mr Lalith Weerathunge, President's Senior Adviser cum a visiting Lecturer of the Post Graduate Institute of Management (PGIM) is to serve as the key resource person for the project who has also been a famed lecturer of English Language before he joined the State Administrative Service. The Course will cover 40 hours spanning 15 - 20 weeks and begins with lessons on essentials of public speaking before core elements of communicative techniques, technical competence, role of effective communicators and related modules are taken up for discussion.

The inauguration of the Course was attended by Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who extended a warm welcome to the visiting lecturer, Mr Lalith Weerathunge. Afterwards, the Army Chief told the gathering about the importance of effective communication and how it could help improve one's professional career to be attractive communicators. An introductory speech by the lecturer symbolized the commencement of the Course.

This professional communication skills programme to be conducted on Wednesdays at the Army HQ is implemented as a free Course, intending to motivate Officers for improvement of their communicative skills.
