President Promotes Five More Brigadiers to Major General Rank & 25 Lieutenant Colonels to the Rank of Colonel

HE the President Maithripala Sirisena, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has promoted five senior Brigadiers of the Army to the rank of temporary Major General on the recommendation of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake states a communiqué issued by the Military Secretariat.

All those five Senior Officers while serving as Infantrymen and got injured in combat having played praiseworthy roles during Humanitarian Operations and rendered a yeoman service to the country in the fight against LTTE terrorism and separatism.

Brigadier D.J.I.P Gamage of Gajaba Regiment (GR), currently serving as Director Assets Management has accordingly been promoted to the rank of temporary Major General, effective from 16 May 2018. Prior to the present appointment, he served as Deputy Director, Directorate of Welfare at Army Headquarters (AHQ) and a number of other key appointments. He also served as Brigadier Admin and Quartering at the Security Force Headquarters – Central.

Brigadier H.R Wickramsinghe of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) who is serving as the Director Management and Maintenance at Colombo Army Hospital has been promoted to the rank of Major General, effective from 16 May 2018. He has also served as the Center Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, Regimental Headquarters, Director Movement, Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps and also as the Center Commandant Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment.

Brigadier J.R Ampemohotti of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) who has also been promoted to the rank of temporary Major General, effective from 16 May 2018, is currently attached to SLLI Regimental Headquarters. He also held the appointments of Director Human Right & Humanitarian Law and a few more.

Brigadier W.H.M Manatunga of Gemunu Watch, Commandant Designate Ranaviru Resources Centre is also among one who has also been promoted to the rank of temporary Major General, effective from 16 May 2018. He also served as Deputy Commandant at Ranaviru Resource Centre.

Meanwhile, Brigadier D.A.P.N Dematanpitiya of Sri Lanka Signal Corps, (SLSC) currently serving as General Officer Commanding 56 Division has also been promoted to the rank of temporary Major General, effective from 18 August 2018. Prior to this appointment, he served as Director Information Technology of directorate of Information Technology at Army Headquarters (AHQ) and a number of other key appointments. He also served as Commander, 552 Brigade.
