Defender of the Nation

President Lauds Roles &;amp; Responsibilities of Armed Forces

“Unlike state employees who usually perform duties within limited hours, Sri Lanka Army and other services, considering country and the nation as priorities, sacrifice not only their knowledge, experience, time and understanding for the sake of the motherland, but also their precious lives which another state officer would not be able to do,” so said President Maithripala  Sirisena, addressing the newly passed out graduates at the Sri Lanka Military Academy in Diyatalawa on Saturday (27).

We all know that you all, together with sister services, Police and the Civil Security Department eliminated LTTE terrorism although the Army from our neighboring India could not do so. Therefore, all those who laid their lives for the motherland are remembered with honour and dignity.

“I specifically note that we are ready to give you all possible assistance, privileges and facilities at all times. I as the Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces, President of this country and as well as your government servant, assure that our government would stand by you whenever needed while performing our duties”, President Sirisena said.

We are proud that members of our Armed Forces are continuing to serve in the United Nations due to the fact that the Sri Lanka Army has a respected image and I wish good luck with our Armed Forces, the President added.
