President Declares Open Army Tattoo at Kettarama

THE Army Tattoo, the final event organized in connection with the Army 60th Anniversary celebrations was ceremoniously declared open Saturday (17) evening at Kettarama stadium by His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa who graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya received the President on his arrival at the venue. President Rajapaksa hoisted the National flag at the inauguration while Gen. Fonseka and Lt. Gen. Jayasuriya hoisted the flag of the Office of the CDS and the Army flag respectively.

After the Army Band played the national anthem bringing everyone at Kettarama to attention,  the Chief Guest, military chiefs and all present observed a two-minute silence in honour of fallen War Heroes.

The mega spectacle commenced after the President was conducted to the Grand Stand by Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonatilake, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickramaratne and a large crowd witnessed the inauguration.

The Army tattoo that highlights Army heroism, gallantry, acrobatics and an assortment of undisputed skills of the Army, including simulation attacks on Puthumattalan, model attacks on enemy strongholds, drill displays, etc will continue until 23rd October 2009 beginning at 5.00 p.m. every day.
