Commemorating the importance of the ‘Poson Poya’ Day, troops of the Security Force HQ - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the financial support, provided by Taiwani Theravadi Samadhi Buddhist Organization donated a large consignment of essential goods and baby requirements for pregnant women in Vavuniya area on Saturday (03) on account of the Poya day.
The guidance and supervision of the Commander, Security Forces - W, Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP enabled the distribution of those essentials among 140 pregnant women in the area. Each pack, consists of 21 items, essential for newborn babies and pregnant women was worth over Rs: 25,000/=.
Ven Dr Bodagama Chandima Thero, Vice Chancellor of Nagananda University and the President of Taiwani Theravadi Samadhi Buddhist Organization in Taiwan organized the gesture in response to the Army request.
The distribution commenced after religious observances, administered by Ven Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero who also invoked blessings on the beneficiaries and the gathering. A group of 40 Taiwanese nationals of the Taiwani Theravadi Samadhi Buddhist Organization who contributed to the donation and beneficiaries with their relations were present during the event.
Towards the end of the project, a delicious lunch was offered to all pregnant women and their relatives. Commander, SF-W, Senior Officers and Other Ranks were associated with the occasion.
