Major General Chandana Marasinghe, Master General Ordnance (AHQ) of the Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) on the verge of his retirement from the Army after a committed service of more than three decades was invited to the office of the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva this morning (5) in order to appreciate and extend his best wishes.
"You are one of the few Officers I saw with an all-time positive attitude to any entrusted task, particularly when it related to COVID-19 prevention logistics. Your outstanding contribution by way of speedy supply of all essentials for pandemic prevention, quarantine centres, accessories and equipment right in time without any interruption enabled the Army to perform our roles effectively and diligently. It was the logistics that kept our pandemic preventive mechanism going well. Those logistics as well as the supplies to the north and east for use of ground troops were smooth and caused no problem to anyone at all and that capacity in an Officer like you serves an example to others to follow, " so remarked General Shavendra Silva during the meet with outgoing Major General Marasinghe.
Major General Chandana Marasinghe, one of the most senior officers, groomed by the SLAOC who has served a number of key appointments in the Army completed more than three decades of dedicated service and contributed to the uplift of professional standards of the SLAOC in particular. General Shavendra Silva during the brief interaction refreshed memories and shared a few thoughts with the retiring Major General Chandana Marasingha while appreciating projects he undertook as the Master General Ordnance during these critical times with the outbreak of the epidemic.
Major General Marasinghe as a warrior in the 1 Gemunu Watch during humanitarian operations actively contributed to Vadamarachchi operations and several other offensives against terrorism before the war ended.
The outgoing Senior Officer also thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and the thoughtfulness while mentioning about the encouragement he received from the Army Chief in the performance of his duties. He also thanked the Commander's broad understanding on the logistics and directions when needed. Towards the end of the interaction, General Shavendra Silva awarded a special memento to the retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation of his more than three-decade of service to the Army.
