Poppy Flower Pinned on Commander

Brigadier K.A. Gnanaweera (retd), Treasurer of the Sri Lanka Ex-servicemen's Association on Thursday (15) officially pinned a poppy flower on the Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters and inaugurated the formal commencement of the commemorative events to coincide with the World Poppy Day that recollects the memories of fallen War Heroes. 

All arrangements are ready for the commemoration ceremony of the world Poppy Day to be held at the War Heroes cenotaph at the Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo on 8th November, the Commander was told.

The red Poppy has become a familiar symbol of 'Remembrance Day' with the famous poem ‘In Flanders Field’. These Poppies blossomed across some of the battlefields of Flanders after the World War. I, Their brilliant red colour is regarded, an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen's Association, Rear Admiral S. Samaratunga (retd) and Major General Upul Perera (retd) were also present at the occasion.
