Peace Walk in Jaffna Marks International Peace Day


A large crowd of civilians, representing different social strata, recently joined hands with the Army to celebrate the International Day of Peace (Sept 21), organizing a Peace Walk in Jaffna.

More than 2600 people, including members of the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, school children, teachers, officials from Jaffna-based organizations and civilians, started the walk from Chunnakam, Navatkuly, Kopay and Vasavilan on 21 Sept morning and assembled at the Jaffna clock tower junction.

The Peace Walk was organized by the 515 Brigade of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J). In addition to walking crowds, a large number of motorbike and pushbike riders and three wheelers were on parade to show their solidarity with the arrangement.

All participants arrived from four corners preceded by school bands after meeting at the clock tower junction, began to march under the National Flag up to the Duraiyappa stadium where they wished peace to all.

Religious leaders, Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-J, senior SFHQ-J officers, other ranks and a large crowd, joined the walk.
