The General Officer Commanding of the 52 Infantry Division, Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc taking one more initiative for a community-oriented project laid the foundation-stone for construction of a new house for a deserving family in Mirisuvil on Wednesday (02 August).
The mother of this needy family undergoes a lot of hardships with three daughters since their father has maliciously left them some years ago. Presently, they are living in a coconut leaf-thatched house without any permanent source of income. The casual job done by their elder daughter is the only source of income to the family while the other two younger daughters are still schooling.
The Pastor Rev Anistan Andrew, resident in Mirisuvil brought the miserable condition of the family to the notice of the Army who afterwards initiated the preliminary arrangements in coordination with relevant parties.
The ‘Imagine Compassion’ organization offered necessary sponsorship for raw materials and troops of the 11 Field Regiment Sri Lanka Engineers of the 523 Infantry Brigade undertook the task of constructing the new house using their technical expertise and manpower.
Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, family members and villagers participated in the cornerstone-laying ceremony.
