Pakistan Military Academy Honours Visiting General Shavendra Silva

The Pakistan Military Academy at Kakul (PMA), similar in function to Sandhurst or West Point and provides training to the officers of Pakistan Army and Allied countries which also has the capacity to train 2000 guest officers from foreign organizations recently laid a red carpet military reception to General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army when he made a formal visit to the location at the invitation of Major General Omer Bokhari, Commandant, PMA during his stay in Pakistan to attend the Pakistan Day as Guest of Honour.

Officer Cadets at the PMA accorded a Guard Turnout and a simple parade to the day's Chief Guest at the entrance after he was received by the PMA Commandant, Major General Omer Bokhari at the entrance before he was ushered to lay a floral wreath in memory of fallen War Heroes of Pakistan armed forces in the PMA compound. A brief presentation on the role and tasks of the PMA was presented at the outset before the day's Chief Guest was introduced to PMA's Senior Officers. A brief meeting between the Commandant, PMA and General Shavendra Silva that ensued recalled the PMA's continued support for the Sri Lanka Army by training its Officers for many years. Later on, the visitors had a close look at the entire premises and its facilities.

Afterwards, General Shavendra Silva and his retinue met a representative gathering of trainee Officer Cadets, both male and female under training and took time off to share a few thoughts with them. General Silva also expressed deep gratitude for arrangements and left compliments in the Visitors' Book after formal exchange of mementoes. Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Adjutant General, Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President Army Seva Vanitha Unit also joined the visit to the PMA.
