The mock ‘Exercise Cormorant Strike-XI 2021’, now in full swing entering its final phases effectively infiltrated one more main base of the ad hoc terrorist organization, East Asian Liberation Fighters (ELF) at Narakamulla and completely destroyed it with Airmobile Brigade troops on Wednesday (22).
This base has been further identified as the ELF’s main base in the Eastern sector that coordinates and supports terrorist activities although ELF hardcore cadres in this base were earlier, too compelled to retreat after attacks of the Security Forces. It was also divulged that terrorists were getting reorganized to unleash violence again while closely conducting surveillance roles in the area with the support of some 26-28 trained cadres, armed with T-56 automatic rifles, LMGs, RPGs, Mortars and one M40 recoilless rifle. This ELF base was commanded by one of the ELF leaders, identified as ‘Donny Brasco’ until it was destroyed by rehearsing Airmobile Brigade troops.
Meanwhile, while the ‘Exercise Cormorant Strike XI 2021’ was on in an effective manner, the Defence Attaché of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Colonel Muhammad Safdar Khan and Lt. Commander Babar Nisar (Chief Observer) arrived at the Exercise Control Headquarters at ITC Minneriya last Sunday (19) morning.
A brief introduction given by the Deputy Director of the Exercise Cormorant Strike, Major General Anil Samarasiri further updated the visiting Pakistan’s Defense Attaché about future proceedings and mission- related plans in the Exercise Cormorant Strike X1 as his visit was meant to get updates on the smooth conduct of the Exercise. The Chief Adviser of the Exercise Cormorant Strike XI 2021, Brigadier Sanka Jayamaha was also present during the interaction.
In the meantime, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander Security Forces - East on Wednesday (22) made an observation visit to the joint Tri-service Mega Field Training Exercise (FTX), Exercise - Cormorant Strike XI - 2021, to be welcomed by the Deputy Exercise Director, Major General Anil Samarasiri, General Officer Commanding, 65 Division and other stakeholders.
The visiting Commander, SF-East took a first-hand glimpse of the proceedings of this notable annual project which is scheduled to end on 29 September 2021.
