Over 1000 Wanni Troops Trained in ‘Kiyoshiru Budo’ Receive Certificates

The second phase of the self-defence martial art, ‘Kiyoshiru Budo’ course of the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) drew to a close on Tuesday (24) during a ceremony, attended by the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Jagath Gunawardena.

The novel course was introduced to the Wanni troops on an initiative, taken by Major General Jagath Gunawardene, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni (SF-W). He facilitated its inauguration early on 05 September 2019 at the SFHQ-W.

The self-styled Course trains participants to confront any situations, causing multiple effects to the opponents while defending own personal safety and discharging their prime duty. It also provides a great impetus to soldiers to maintain their physical strength and mental stability under any trying circumstances.

‘Kiyoshiru Budo’ is a leading different style among 13 martial art styles, practised in modern times which can be used to overpower the opponent, using numerous fighting techniques.

The course was conducted by a team of well- experienced and qualified Army instructors along with one of the veteran martial art instructors in Sri Lanka, Renshi Mr Clement De Zoysa (Black Belt - Dan 8) as the chief instructor in the Course.

24 Officers and 1000 Other Ranks representing under command formations of the SFHQ-W received training under the second phase.

The Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Jagath Gunawardena attended the closing ceremony and awarded certificates to the trainees as the Chief Guest. All trainees staged an Exhibition show during the awarding ceremony.

The series of all training sessions were closely monitored by the General Staff Officer II (Training), Major S.U.B Pilimathalawe under the directions of Brigadier General Staff of the SFHQ-W, Brigadier H.P Ranasinghe. The day’s ceremony ended with a musical evening, the same day.
