Outgoing NDC Commandant’s Dedicated Service Appreciated

Major General K.A.D.Amal Karunasekara (Retd) RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, the former Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC), Colombo-3 paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage on Friday (17) at the Army Headquarters.

During the cordial interaction, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage thanked Major General K.A.D.Amal Karunasekara (Retd) RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc for rendering an unblemished service to the Army at first, and also his extended contribution of high profile after retirement as the founding Commandant at the first-ever National Defence College (NDC) of Sri Lanka.

"By elevating the NDC to its best standards through your able guidance and directions during your five-year tenure as the founding Commandant, the NDC has made a niche for itself in the annals of military academia in parallel with overseas ones, bringing credit to the country and the armed forces of the country alike. This novel project while earning foreign exchange for the country saved a considerable expenditure for the land too. You as the driving force behind its management proved the world that our armed forces are capable of meeting with all criteria and multiple skills, needed at academic, operational, tactical or any other level," the Commander of the Army commented.

Towards the end of the interactions, the Army Chief symbolizing the gratitude presented a special token of appreciation to the outgoing NDC Commandant.

The National Defence College (NDC) is the defence service training institute and highest seat of strategic learning for officers of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, Sri Lanka Police and the Public Services. Its mission is to provide holistic knowledge with a view of developing highly qualified strategic decision-makers in the realm of national security, statecraft, diplomacy and public policy to ensure national security and national development of Sri Lanka. The reading will aim at creating strategic thinkers, strategic analysts, decision-makers and strategic advisors and the institution will provide professional counsel to the Government in national and international security matters and also acts as a think-tank on matters of national security.
