Outgoing Master General Ordnance’s Service Praised

Major General W.M.R.W.W.H.J.B Wanigasekara VSV USP, Master General Ordnance and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps called at the Commander’s office on request on Tuesday (10 Oct) along with family members on the eve of his retirement from the Army.

The Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu during interactions with the retiring Senior Officer with more than 36 years of service commended him for his untiring commitments, filled with cherished memories and noteworthy achievements. The Commander of the Army also spoke high of his engineering skills and efforts he made to improve different technical aspects and peripheral practical needs of the organization.

Major General W.M.R.W.W.H.J.B Wanigasekara VSV USP in return thanked the Army Commander for the cordial invitation and expressed his gratitude for the guidance the Commander has extended to him in the performance of his varied duties in the Army.

The Army Chief while sharing a few pleasantries with his family members invited to the occasion also queried about the retiring Senior Officer’s future undertakings and plans. The Army Chief simultaneously appreciated the invaluable support that has been given to the Senior Officer by his family members throughout his career.

Towards the end of the interactions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the retiring Senior Officer as a symbol of appreciation and commendation along with a special gift to the family.

Here follows a brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer;

Major General W.M.R.W.W.H.J.B Wanigasekara VSV USP enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 20 July 1987 and underwent basic military training in the Sri Lanka Military Academy - Diyatalawa in the Intake 29. He was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps on 12 December 1989. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the course of the span of service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 02 August 2021.

He has been holding the office of Master General Ordnance, Army Headquarters and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps at the time of his retirement. He also held the appointments of Transport Officer of 11 General Transport Squadron, Second-in-Command of 7 Supply Squadron, Officer Commanding of 6 Composite Squadron, Officer Commanding of 11 General Transport Squadron, Adjutant of 1 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC), Officiating Major Administration and Quartering of Air Mobile Brigade, Officer Commanding of 120 Composite Squadron, Officer Commanding of 150 Composite Squadron, Supply and Transport Officer of Sri Lanka Battalion - United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), Chief Instructor of Army Service Corps School, Officiating Staff Officer 1 (Supply) at Directorate of Supply & Transport- Army Headquarters, Second-in-Command of 4 SLASC, Officiating Staff Officer 1 (Administration and Quartering) at Headquarters 52 Infantry Division, Officiating Staff Officer 1 (Transport) at Directorate of Supply & Transport - Army Headquarters, Commanding Officer of 7 SLASC, Officiating Colonel (Administration and Quartering) at Headquarters 23 Infantry Division, Commanding Officer of Army Catering Battalion, Deputy Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre SLASC, Colonel (Supply and Transport) of Directorate of Supply & Transport- Army Headquarters, Director, Directorate of Supply & Transport - Army Headquarters and Director General of Directorate of Supply & Transport - Army Headquarters.

Major General W.M.R.W.W.H.J.B Wanigasekara VSV USP followed many local and foreign courses during his military career, Young Officers’ Course, Unit Coachers’ Course, Officer Instructor Training, Course on International Humanitarian Law, Regimental Signal Officers Course, Peacekeeping Operations Instructors Course, Psychological Operations Training Course, Young Officers’ Supply Course - Pakistan, Young Officers Mechanical Transport Course - Pakistan, Advanced Petroleum Course - Pakistan, Mid-Career Course- Bangladesh, Senior Officers’ Course - India were among some of them.

In addition, the Senior Officer has read for a number of higher educational and non-military qualifications such Master of Business Administration in Logistics and Supply Chain Management in IIC University of Technology at Cambodia, Diploma in Business Management in European Institute of Professional Education, Certificate Course in International Trade and Transport at Academy for International Trade and Transport, Advanced Certificate Course in International Trade at Academy for International Trade and Transport, Diploma in International Trade and Transport at Academy for International Trade and Transport.
