The outgoing Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna, Major General M. D. S Chandrapala RWP RSP USP before he bade adieu to his troops in Jaffna paid courtesy calls to religious dignitaries, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, International Committee of Red Cross and a cross section of NGO representatives and distinguished citizens in the peninsula.
Major General Chandrapala met Jaffna Bishop Rev.Thomas Saundranayagam at Bishop's House and exchanged memories of goodwill during the tenure of the outgoing Commander. Later on, he paid a visit to the Chief Custodian (kurukkal) of the sacred Nallur Kovil, Rev.Guru Mahayanidam, Vice Chancellor, University of Jaffna Mr. S. Mohandass, Officials of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission, International Committee of Red Cross, Non-Governmental Organizations on 17th and 18th August consecutively. He also talked to troops in 51, 52, 53, 55 Divisions during those visits.
On Thursday (19) after his brief farewell address to 515 Brigade troops, Major General Chandrapala, as a token of memory planted a mango sapling inside the Brigade premises. He was accorded a Guard of Honour by troops of the 1st Field Regiment, Sri Lanka Engineers before he proceeded to his office. Afterwards, formal handing-over procedures to his successor continued. Major General Chandrapala is expected to assume duties as Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force shortly.
